جورج شامي: ولد عام ١٩٣١ في بيروت.
—صنف أستاذاً جامعياً بدرجة دكتوراه دولة من الجامعة اللبنانية عام ١٩٧٨.
—عين مديراً لكلية الإعلام والتوثيق في الجامعة اللبنانية في أواخر كانون الثاني ١٩٧٨ (الفرع الثاني) حتى أيلول ١٩٨١، حيث قدم استقالته.
اتخذ الصحافة مهنة له عام ١٩٥٢، وبدأ بممارستها في جريدة «النهار»، ومنها انتقل للعمل في الصحف والمجلات والوكالات التالية؛ محرراً ومديراً ورئيساً للتحرير: «صدى لبنان»، «الحياة»، الشراع»، «العمل»، «الرأي العام» في الكويت، «الاقتصاد اللبناني والعربي»، «الوكالة الوطنية للأنباء» «الحسناء»، «الأسبوع العربي»، «الأنوار»، «الوطن العربي»، في باريس، و«المشاهد السياسي» في لندن.

في هذا الكتاب بعنوانه الإشكالي: "سمك، لبن، تمر هندي" حيث كان أهلنا يحذروننا من تناول السمك مع اللبن بحجة أن ذلك يسمّم الأبدان، نقع على حقائق تشي بكثير من طبائع الشعوب، وتدخل إلى كواليس عالم الصحابة في نهاية القرن العشرين التي كانت في ذلك الزمان لا تزال تحافظ على وزنها ونفاذ معلوماتها ومصداقيتها. كما ندخل أيضاً إلى أعماق العقل الصحفي الذي الذي يعرف حقيقة السياسة والسياسيين، وما تؤول إليه الأحداث الكبرى من مآسٍ ومشاكل وتناقضات، فكان لا بد للصحافيين من الإشاحة عن الجدّية والدخول إلى عالم آخر من الكتابة من باب الضحك والتسلية والفكاهة.
