الرواية تقتحم مناطق مسكوت عنها، فتتناول بكل الجرأة قضايا الزواج القسري، والجنس والكبت، وأثره في النشأة العاطفية للفتى والفتاة والنشوء التربوي والنفسي للمراهق، وما ينتج عن ذلك من تعقيدات ومشاكل اجتماعية في طور البلوغ. كما تتعرض لقضية التشدد الديني واستغلال بعض رجال الدين للبسطاء من خلال غسل أدمغتهم بالأباطيل.
