عزلت من العمل في تدريس اللغة العربية، ورُفض تعيينها في وزارة التربية لمواقفها من النظام فتفرغت للكتابة الروائية.
عاشت فترة في دولة الكويت.
حصلت على الجائزة الأولى لمسابقة سعاد الصباح عن مجموعتها القصصية (جذور ميتة)، ووصلت روايتها (عين الشمس) للقائمة الطويلة لجائزة البوكر.

Book Description
محاولة لإعادة كتابة التاريخ بوصفه محصلة لتقاطع وتشابك المصالح، وسيرورة لا يصنعها أصحاب القرار فحسب. بل البسطاء أيضاً من العمال والفلاحين والحرفيين والمعلمين في المدن والأرياف النائية من الرجال والنساء معاً. متخذة من منطقة «أريحا» المعروفة بـ «جبل السمّاق» أو «جبل الأربعين» فضاء مكانياً لأبطالها وأحداثها، ومن «سوق الحدادين» بعماله وأصحاب محلاته ومرتاديه مسرحاً لحركة شخصياتها الرئيس ة، مسلطة الضوء على حقبة زمنية مهمة من تاريخنا المعاصر تمتد من العشرينيات حتى الاستقلال. ترصد الرواية رحلة حياة وكفاح بطلها إبراهيم الذي أراد له والده محمد خير أن يصبح حداداً مثله، لكنه أصر على التعلم حتى حصل على الشهادة من المدرسة الخسروية في حلب. وعلى خلفية هذه الرحلة يبدو مشهد الكفاح الوطني ضد المحتل الفرنسي فنتعرف إلى رجال الكتلة الوطنية الذين يمثلهم قدري بيك ومجموعته، وإلى أعوان المستعمر الذين يمثلهم فكرت بيك وحفنة من العملاء على رأسهم «أبو رقعة».
