تعد مادة القانون الدولي الخاص برمتها مادة حديثة نسبياً إذا ما قورنت بغيرها من المواد القانونية الأخرى. ولعل هذا هو السبب الذي يمكن أن يفسر ذلك الجدل الفقهي المحتوم ليس فحسب بسبب أصوله ونظرياته،وإنما أيضاً بشأن بيان الموضوعات التي تندرج تحت هذه الدراسة. وأياً كان هذا الجدل شديد المنازلة بين أقلام الكتاب فإن من المستقر عليه في فرنسا ومصر ولبنان ومعظم البلدان العربية أن مادة القانون الدولي الخاص ينضوي تحت لوائها أنواع ثلاثة من القواعد: 1-القواعد المنظمة للتمتع بالحقوق. 2-القواعد المنظمة للممارسة الحقوق. 3-القواعد المنظمة لحماية الحقوق والمراكز القانونية. فموضوع هذا الدراسة في هذا الكتاب هو الجنسية اللبنانية مقارنة مع بعض التشريعات. وقد اقتضى بحثها تفصيلها ضمن قسمين: في الأول تم عرض النظرية العامة للجنسية. وفي الثاني تم شرح أحكام الجنسية اللبنانية.
