كثر السؤال عن حقيقة زواج السيدة أم كلثوم بنت أمير المؤمنين علي رضي الله عنه، بعمر بن الخطاب، ولأن الأجوبة التي يسمعها السائلون لا تأتي عادة على درجة كافية من الوضوح والقوة، دأب مؤلف الكتاب السيد جعفر مرتضى العاملي للرد على السائلين عن هذا الزواج والتعرض لبحث هذه القضية بالمقدار الذي يعطي تصوراً عن حقيقة ما جرى.
ولأن في روايات زواج أم كلثوم بعمر بن الخطاب الكثير من الإختلاف والتباين عمل المؤلف على اختيار بعض النصوص التي يوردها أهل السّنة ، ونصوصاً أخرى وردت في مصادر الشيعة الإمامية، مع استعراض للكثير من الجزئيات والخصوصيات والتفاصيل التي وردت في الروايات المختلفة.
وفي الكتاب أيضاً أسئلة أخرى حول: ما السبب في أنه ليس لأم كلثوم ذكر كثير، مثل السبطين وزينب عليهما السلام؟ ومن هو زوج أم كلثوم الأول؟ وهل ثمة من أطفال؟ وهكذا يبدأ وينتهي الكتاب حول حديث الزواج بين الأخذ والرد ... والله أعلم.
