حملات القتل المعنوي لأم كلثوم بدأت وهي صبية صغيرة تشق طريقها إلى القمة، وتستحوذ على قلوب الناس. وبدافع من المنافسة تعرضت لأول محاولة اغتيال قادتها سلطانة الطرب منيرة المهدية، وكادت تنجح المحاولة، وتعتزل أم كلثوم عن الغناء وتعود إلى قريتها مهزومة مستسلمة مكسورة! وبعد رحيلها كان هناك من يستكثر عليها ما حازته من مجد، فراح يوجه لها الطعنات، ويتهمها بالدكتاتورية والاستبداد، وأنها مجرد مطربة لا أكثر، ولا تستحق منصب سيدة الغناء. وهكذا كان كتاب "الهوى دون أهله" محاولة اغتيال في وضع النهار.
وبين المحاولتين جرت محاولات أخرى.. كان أبرزها ما حدث في نهاية حياتها، وفي بدايات سنوات حكم الرئيس السادات، وتجريدها من نفوذها وجماهيرها وسطوتها في الشارع المصري، على اعتبار أنها مطربة عهد مضى، وهناك شك في إخلاصها للعهد الجديد.. وبدأت المحاولات.. والإجراءات.. والطعنات.. وماتت أم كلثوم كمدًا!
هذه الفصول هي أول توثيق من نوعه لهذه المعارك التي خاضتها أم كلثوم.. في حياتها وبعد الغياب "الطاغي".. يحكي أسرار هذه المعارك وكواليسها، وما تعرضت له أم كلثوم من جراح وآلام.. وما سكبته من دموع!
