جمع السيد جعفر مرتضى العاملي في كتابه (مختصر مفيد) أسئلة وأجوبة في الدين والعقيدة لعل القارىء يجد فيها بعض ما ينفع أو يجدي في حياته بشكل أو بآخر. يتألف الكتاب من ثمانية أقسام: القسم الأول في العقائديات، القسم الثاني: في رحاب أهل البيت عليهم السلام، القسم الثالث: في المرأة، القسم الرابع: أحكام شرعية، القسم الخامس: عن الزهراء عليها السلام، القسم السادس: تفسير آيات في العقائد، القسم السابع بعنوان: إلاّ الفتنة سقطوا، والقسم الثامن والأخير: متفرقات.
وفي الكتاب وردت أسئلة هي مثار جدل ونقاش منها على سبيل المثال: هل يستطيع الإنسان أن يمتلك قدرة تمكنه من تدمير كوكب الأرض؟ وهل كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقرأ ويكتب قبل البعثة؟ وسؤال عن رأي المؤلف بالنسبة إلى الولاية التكوينية والتشريعية للمصومين الأربعة عشر بصورة عامة، ولفاطمة الزهراء عليها السلام بصورة خاصة؟ وهل تحاسب الحيوانات في الآخرة؟ ولماذا قال الإمام الصادق عليه السلام "ولدين أبو بكر مرتين" وما صحة هذا الحديث؟ وهل أن الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر هو للعلماء فقط لأنهم هم الأعلم في تشخيص ذلك أم هو واجب على كل فرد مسلم؟ وهل يتحقق الموت الشرعي بموت الدماغ!!، وما هو حقيقة السر المتودع في الزهراء عليها السلام؟ والمقصود به ما ورد في الدعاء "اللهم اسألك بحق الزهراء وأبيها وبعلها وبنيها والسر المستودع فيها" فما حقيقة هذا السر؟ وما علاقة الآية الكريمة .. سأل سائل بعذاب واقع" والإمامة؟ . وفي الكتاب أيضاً نقاش وأخذ ورد حول قيم وعقائد وكتابات السيد محمد حسين فضل الله ورأي علماء المذهب فيها ... وأحكام ومتفرقات أخرى ذات صلة.
يبقى أن نشير أن كتاب "مختصر مفيد" هو (18) مجلداً والمجلد رقم (5) نافذاً من المكتبة.
