من يتابع الدراسات الاجتماعية التحليلية للتاريخ الحديث في العراق وعموم المشرق العربي، لا بد له من التوقف عند أحداث 1920 في العراق و1925 في سوريا وتأثيراتها في لبنان، وحقيقة الصراع في فلسطين وردود الأفعال العربية على ما جرى حينذاك من خطط استهدفت الشعور الديني والقومي العربي بعد عام 1936 وما تلاه من أحداث في العراق سنة 1941 وصولاً إلى قرار تقسيم فلسطين. فكان ما كان من انتفاضات وثورات ومتغيرات بدأت بثورة تموز 1958 وما تلاها من سلسلة المتغيرات الوطنية والقومية.
ذلك كله كان يحفر مجراه في وعي المفكرين العراقيين والعرب، ومن بينهم المفكر الاجتماعي الدكتور الوردي الذي أضاف غلى توثيق تلك الأحداث الشيء الكثير من خلال بحوثه المتعمقة في تحليل شخصية الفرد العراقي وتوجهاته الفكرية ونزعاته الاجتماعية مزاجه النفسي، حيث حرص الوردي على تسجيلها بوعي الباحث المدقق وعمق المفكر المعاصر. وكانت سلسلة مؤلفاته توثيقاً لما جرى في محيطه الاجتماعي والثقافي للمدة من 1951 إلى 1995.
من هنا فإننا نجد من المفيد للباحث والدارس والمتخصص الإطلاع على كل ذلك من خلال ما تضمنه هذا الكتاب الذي يضعه بين بيت الحكمة بين أيدي القراء العراقيين والعرب الأعزاء.
