"موسوعة أهل البيت الحضارية" موسوعة فريدة في بابها، مبتكرة في أسلوبها وأدائها، ناهضة بعبء ثقيل من البحث العلمي الرصين، تتحدث عن الآثار الإنسانية والعطاء الحضاري لكل المعصومين عليهم السلام، وفكراً عقائدياً، ومنهجاً ورسالياً، وأفقاً موسوعياً وظاهرة متألقة لن تتكرر. والعرض المنهجي ههنا يؤكد على أبرز الجوانب في حياة كل إمام، باعتباره قائداً ورائداً وفكراً وعطاءً ليس غير.
وكانت طبيعة هذا الإبداع في اختيار المنهج الحديث أن تبتعد هذه الدراسة عن التراكم التقليدي في عرض الكرمات والفضائل، فهو منهج بعد من المؤلف، وابتعد عنه، وقد سرده الآخرون، بل اتخذ الاستقرار التاريخي، وريادة المجهول ومنطق حقائق الأشياء بديلاً عنه: في الحقل الإنساني والبعد التخطيطي وصيانة التراث وقد اتسع فكر المؤلف سماحة الشيخ "محمد حسين على الصغير" الأستاذ المتمرس في جامعة الكوفة النجف الأشرف لدراسة هذه المعالم الجديدة التى لم يسبق إليها من ذي قبل.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا هو الأول من كتب هذه الموسوعة وهو يتحدث عن الإمام علي عليه السلام، سيرته وقيادته، في ضوء المنهج التحليلي، وهو يقع في ثلاثة فصول رئيسية: الفصل الأول وهو بعنوان "علي في عصر النبوة" وقد استوعب حياة الإمام علي ف يعهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بخطوطها العامة، فكان جندياً وقائداً وأخاً وناصراً ووزيراً ووصياً.
الفصل الثاني وهو بعنوان "علي بين الشيخين وعثمان" وقد القى الضوء على سيرة الإمام في تلك الحقبة الطويلة، فكان محاججاً وصابراً وناصحاً ومفتياً. الفصل الثالث وهو بعنوان "علي في قيادته للأمة "فكان حاكماً وسياسياً وراعياً ومحارباً، ومرسياً لأصول التشريع الإسلامي، وبانياً لسنن العدل الاجتماعي، ورائداً لمعالم النظام السياسي الأمثل، وملبياً لنداء الضمير الإنساني.
وما استطاع هلي أن يكمل مسيرته القيادية الفذة، فقد عاجله القدر وذهب شهيد عظمته ومبادئه، وبغي رمز إنسانيته وصلابته، وللدهر. أن يكشف خصائص الإمام الفريدة، وللبحث العلمي أن يجيب عن السؤال: من هو علي بن أبي طالب؟ وكانت مصادر هذه الدراسة كتب السيرة والتاريخ والمغازي لدى القدامى، ومراجعها مصنفات الاستقراء المنهجي والتحليل التاريخي لدى المحدثين، وما ورد فيها من نصوص وآثار لا يعدو هذين المنبعين فهماً موارد الدراسة ومادتها التاريخية، وكان للاجتهاد الشخصي والنقد المنهجي لدى المؤلف أثره البارز في كيان هذه الدراسة وفلسفتها.
