الإمام أبو عبد الله: جعفر الصادق بن الإمام محمد الباقر بن الإمام زين العابدين علي بن الحسين بن الإمام الحسين سيد الشهداء بن أمير المؤمنين الإمام علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه. ولد في المدينة المنورة عام 83هـ وتوفي عام 148هـ. اشتهر بالصادق لقباً. حتى عرف به، وأغنى لقبه عن اسمه، واشتهر به شهرة عظيمة، حتى كان له الصادق علماً وإنما لقب بالصادق لصدقه في مقالته" ولأنه لم يعرف عنه الكذب قط.
ويقال: سمي صادقاً لأنه ما جرب عليه قط زلل ولا تحريف. وكان خلقه المفضال، وصده الرحب، وأدبه الرفيع، وتواضعه المحمود مما رفعه بين الناس، وجعله رمزاً يقتدى به، وقد أجمع على ذلك أعداؤه قبل أوليائه، هذا في شمائله الخاصة، ووصف في ملامحه العامة بأنه: ربيع القامة، أزهر الوجه، أشم الأنف، أنزع، حالك الشعر، رقيق البشرة، آدم اللون، وكان زهداً في الحياة الدنيا مضرب المثل، مع التجمل وحسن المظهر، وكان إعراضه عن الجاه والاستطالة مما عطف عليه قلوب الأمة، وكان تمحضه للعبادة مما وجه إليه أنظار الخلق، حتى قال أنس بن مالك فقيه المدينة: "كان الإمام الصادق رجلاً لا يخلو من إحدى ثلاث خصال: إما صائماً، وإما قائماً، وإما ذاكراً" وكان مشغولاً بالعبادة عن حب الرئاسة.
إلى جانب ذلك كانت مكارم أخلاقه في المستويات كلها؛ مدعاة للإكبار والإجلال، وهي تبدو في تعامله مع الناس، وتغافله عن أخطائهم، وصبره على مداراتهم، وسعيه في حاجاتهم، ودرئه لمشكلاتهم، والاندماج بسائرهم، فهو معهم كأحدهم، له ما لهم، وعليه ما عليهم، مسلّماً لله في الشدة والرضاء، متوجهاً غليه في السّراء والضراء، هذا مع سمت الصديقين، وشمائل الأبرار.
وللقارئ أن يتأمل في نقاء سريرته من حسن سيرته، مما تكفل بإلقاء الضوء عليه صفحات هذا الكتاب الذي تمّ التركيز فيه على قضية مركزية تتمحور في زعامة الإمام جعفر الصادق لمدرسة أهل البيت العلمية والريادية والتشريعية، يضاف إلى ذلك بيان العطاء الضخم للإنسانية في شى الحقول، مما كان به الإمام رائداً.
