ولد سنة 1949 بمدينة برشيد.
حصل على دبلوم الدراسات العليا في اللغة العربية وآدابها من كلية الآداب والعلوم الإنسانية بفاس سنة 1987.
كما أحرز على دكتوراه الدولة في الآداب من جامعة السوربون بباريس سنة 1990.
يشتغل أستاذا جامعيا.
بدأ أحمد المديني النشر سنة 1967 بجريدة العلم.
التحق باتحاد كتاب المغرب سنة 1972.
يتوزع إنتاجه بين القصة القصيرة، الشعر، النقد الأدبي والترجمة.
وقد نشر أعماله بعدة صحف ومجلات: العلم، المحرر، الاتحاد الاشتراكي، النهار (لبنان)، السفير (لبنان)، الثورة، الجمهورية (العراق)، أنفاس، آفاق أقلام، الآداب، الطريق، تحولات، كتابات معاصرة، الكرمل،

بهذه المجموعة الجديدة يصل أحمد المديني إلى المحطة الأخيرة، والجديدة، أيضا، من مسيرته القصصية التي ابتدأت منذ أربعين عاما بصدور«العنف في الدماغ» (1971) التي أجمع النقد السردي عندنا على اعتبارها مؤسِّسةً ورائدة لكتابة التجريب والتحديث في القصة المغربية. وإنها لتجربة حافلة، توالت عبر اثني عشر عملا، وازتها مثلها روايات، جعلت التجديد والتثوير في الخطاب والأداء الفني شاغلها الأول، لنقْلِ رؤية أدبية وإنسانية مغايرة، كما يليق بكل إبداع. وفي "طعم الكرز" يقدم الكاتب ثمرة مساره الناضج والمختبر، بدءا من نبذ الواقعية الفجة،إلى تغوير المعنى، واستبطان الإحساس،فإلى تأجيج اللغة وإشعاع الرؤيا، بتجريبية لا هوادة فيها في البداية، ثم تدريجيا بالانتقال إلى صفاء الرؤية وتدقيق العبارة وإدراك الوحدة الموضوعية لجنس القصة القصيرة،حيث يتبادل الواقع والخيال المواقع ويتماهيان، صانعين في كل مرة نصا مركزه الذات ومداه المحيط، أرضيته الحياة، وقطبه الوجدان، سَمْته التحديد والنظام، وكنهه بحث دائم عن وضع الكائن منحوت من سمات بيئة أصلية وأخرى ومناخ أجنبي، ضمن مأزق العالم الكبير، يجترحه قلم صناع، شحذته الخبرة البانية وصقلته الشعرية الوظيفية، وها هو يتقدم إلى القارئ مادة قصصية مستساغة، وﺒ «طعم الكرز».
