يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب الشيخ علي بو سلمان الجبيلي في كتابه عن "أنوار الحكمة المتعالية" أن منهج صدر المتألهين إلى الآن يعتمد على عنصرين أساسيين هما: الإستدلالات العقلية البرهانية، والمكاشفات العرفانية الذوقية، ولكنه يدخل عنصراً جديداً وهو عنصر الدين والشريعة، والآراء الدينية التي يعتبرها قضايا عقلية يقينية بصفتها صادرة عن الحجج المعصومين عن الخطأ، أي أنها قضايا يقينية ضرورية، وقد ساعده في ذلك خبرته الواسعة في تفسير القرآن الكريم، وإطلاعه على التراث الروائي الوارد عن الرسول الأعظم صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام... وبذلك أغنى صدر المتألهين الفلسفة الإسلامية.
ينقسم الكتاب إلى عدد من المحاور تبدا بمقدمة عن "صدر الدين الشيرازي" ونبذة عن مؤلفاته ورسائله وتفسيره للقرآن الكريم، يتبع ذلك بيان للمنظومة الفلسفية لمدرسة الحكمة المتعالية ومسائلها، ثم ما يتعلق بعلم النفس الفلسفي، وما يتعلق بالمبدأ (الإلهيات بالمعنى الأخص، وأخيراً ما يتعلق بالمعاد (المعاد الجسماني والروحاني) ويضم "القبر"، و"الحساب والميزان"، و"تجسيم الأعمال"، ويختتم بمنهج الحكمة المتعالية وخلاصات...
