في هذا الكتاب يتناول الشاعر/ الأديب الأهوازي، الدكتور عباس العباس الطائي، أستاذ الأدب العربي في جامعات إيران، تاريخ الشعر الشعبي بصورة عامة، والشعر الشعبي الأهوازي بصفته ناقداً وباحثاً أيضاً مركزاً على ما هو أكثر أهمية، متحاشياً التطويل مفصلاً الكتاب وفق العصور التي مر بها الشعر الشعبي الأهوازي منذ العصر المشعشعي الذي دخل فيه هذا اللون من الشعر في أوج ازدهاره، وكان له شعراءه الكبار أمثال أبي معتوق السيد شهاب الدين الموسوي، وعبد علي الحويزي، وابن المقرب وغيرهم، ثم تابع دراسته في العصر الكعبي الأول (آل ناصر) ثم العصر الكعبي الثاني (آل أبي كاسب)، فالعصر البهلوي، ومن ثم العصر الجمهوري الإسلامي، مؤكداً على أغراض الشعر وأنواعه، وهو ما يحتاجه الأستاذ والطالب والشاعر والمتذوق في رياض الشعر وفنونه.
من رياض الشعر الأهوازي نقرأ للشاعر سيد محسن بن سيد فالح شذرات من قصيدة بعنوان (الله يا ديرة) يقول فيها: الله يا ديرة يا لماكو مثلج ديره، الله يا جيراننة أهل الوفا والغيرة/ الله يا ديره هلي يا البيج شفت الراحة، الله يا ذاك النخل لو حل وكت سباحة(...)/ والله من أشوفج خالية كلبي يزيد أزفيره، لله يا ديرة هلي يا الماكو مثلج ديرة(...)".
