في هذه الرواية يعيش شاب سوداني مهاجر مأساة البحث عن وظيفة بعد سن الأربعين، إذ اضطر أن يغادر بلده إلى الخليج في عمر متأخر، لكنه يكتشف أن قدراته ومهاراته لم تعد تشفع له في عالم متسارع ومليء بالموهوبين. ويختم تعاسته وفشله بارتكابه جناية العمر مع زوجة صديقه ليزج به في السجن في انتظار ترحيله إلى أرض الوطن من جديد. لكن في حياة ثانية، داخل السجن يكون قد حصل معه ما يفوق التوقعات إذ ترسله جهة غامضة إلى الهند ليجد نفسه محاطًا بالمعجبين والمبجلين، ويبدأ في انتظار تحقيق كل الوعود المؤجلة.
