ولدت في مدينة الموصل في شمال العراق وفيها أتمت دراسها الثانوية، درست القانون في جامعة بغداد والصحافة في جامعة لايبزك وفيها حصلت أيضا على درجة الدكتوراه عن أطروحتها "اتجاهات عالمية في تطور وسائل الإعلام" عام 1986 درست الرسم في معهد الفنون الجميلة في بغداد عام 1967 والموسيقى عام 1969 في نفس المعهد.
عملت بين 1961 و1977 في الصحافة العراقية ونشرت مقالاتها المدافعة عن حقوق النساء في مختلف الصحف العراقية.
ترجم عدد من نصوصها إلى: الانكليزية والألمانية والإسبانية والفارسية والمالايالامي، وهي احدى اللغات الهندية

يروي هذا الكتاب تغريبة بني هلال الكبرى الشاميَة الأصليَة، وهي تشمل على ستة وعشرين جزءاً كاملاً، وتحتوي على محل بلاد نجد العدية وقصة مغامس مع ابنة عمه شاه الريم، وزيارة أمراء بني هلال إلى بلاد الغرب وهم يحيى ومرعي ويونس وأبو زيد ليث الحرب، وحبس يحيى ومرعي ويونس عند الزناتي في تونس، ورجوع أبو زيد إلى الأطلال، وأول رحيل بني هلال.
