مع أن الكنائس المسيحية لا تعترف بإنجيل برنابا، لكنه الكتاب الأكثر إثارة للجدل منذ وجوده، والأكثر انقساماً، بالمواقف حوله، فالمختلفون فيه إما رافض بالكلية، أو أنه يعدّه حقيقة مطلقة. وبالتأكيد؛ فإن وراء ذلك ما يراه الرافضون من أنه يهدم قانون الإيمان المسيحي، ويراه المؤيدون مؤكداً، لوجهة نظر الإسلام. فأين إنجيل برنابا من كل ذلك؟ حدّد برنابا دوافعه لكتابة إنجيله، بأنه أراد تصحيح أمور جسيمة، طرأت على العقيدة، وأنه كُتب، بطلب من السيد المسيح. لكن الأمر يتعقّد عندما نعرف أن برنابا التاريخي الرسول والمبشّر لم يلتق، بالمسيح، بل تبع الرسل. لذلك هو مختلف تماماً عن برنابا الإنجيلي، التلميذ المقرّب من المسيح، هذا التناقض يبرّر التساؤل إن كان هو كاتب الإنجيل فعلاً؟ أم مصطفى العرندي اليهودي الإسباني؟ إن تفحّص مخطوطات الإنجيل سيبيّن أصالته من زيفه، والأهم من ذلك، نقد نصوصه ومصادره ومدى تلاقيها، أو اختلافها، مع التوراة والأناجيل القانونية، ومن ثم؛ مع القرآن الكريم. بعد كل ذلك، سيكون بإمكاننا الجواب عن السؤال الذي يطرحه هذا الكتاب: هل من مصلحة المسلمين فعلاً تبنّي إنجيل برنابا؟
