هذا الكتاب يتحدث عن تاريخ مدينة الرستن, والمناطق المحيطة بها, بشكل علمي أكاديمي دقيق. وفيه كشف عن آثارها, بشكل حضاري لائق. ونظراً لأهمية النتائج العلمية سواء في الكشف الأثري أو في الدراسات التاريخية, فقد قررت اللجنة إقامة ندوة لعرض هذه البحوث, وقد ألقيت فيها نتائج البحوث الأثرية والتاريخية حول الرستن ومنطقتها. ولم تكن هذه الندوة الأولى في مجالها وحسب, بل كانت ندوة علمية دولية تفردت بأبحاث أصيلة وجديدة. كما أنجزت اللجنة بعدها دراسة وإقرار عدة بحوث أثرية وتاريخية وجغرافية هامة نشرت في هذا الكتاب. ومن أهم ما تحدث عنه الكتاب: تقرير حول المسح الميداني الأثري لموقع الرستن, التشابه الحضاري بين سورية الوسطى والجنوبية في الألف الثاني قبل الميلاد, الرستن في العصور الإسلامية, التقسيمات الزراعية في منطقة الرستن خلال العصور الكلاسيكية, مار مارون وديره في الرستن, ناووس من مقبرة الرستن, الوسط الجغرافي الطبيعي لمدينة الرستن ومنطقتها, النقوش الكلاسيكية المكتشفة في الرستن, دراسة تاريخية وجيوفيزيائية للمواقع الأثرية في منطقة الرستن, التراث الشعبي في خطاب العامة, الرستن في بعض المعاجم والموسوعات العربية.
