عمر إبراهيم الخيَام النيسابوري (1021- 1123م) حكيم، فيلسوف، عالم رياضيَات وطبيعيات وفلك، وشاعر رباعيَات بل نظير. ألَف أغلب رسائله العلميَة والفلسفيَة باللغة العربية، أمَا رباعيَاته و(نوروزنامه) وإحدى رسائله الفسلفية فباللغة الفارسية، وترجم إلى الفارسيَة خطبة التوحيد (الغرَاء) لأستاذه الشيخ ابن سينا.
ومنذ اكتشافه من قبل الغرب شاعراً- قبل قرابة القرنين- ما برح الخيَام مالئ الدنيا وشاغل المترجمين والباحثين والفنَانين.. فقد تناولته آلاف الكتب والدراسات والمقالات بعشرات اللغات الغربيَة والشرقيَة، لكنَما الكتب التي تناولت نعضلة اختلاط رباعيَاته الأصيلة بالدخيلة وفرزها، لتحقيق وضبط ديوانه قليلة جداً، وكذلك الكتب المتناولة لرسائله العلميَة والفلسفية، وهنا لأوَل مرة في اللغة العربية، بل في لغة أخرى (غير الفارسية) تضمَ دفتَاً كتاب أعمال الخيَام الكاملة (رسائله العلميَة والفلسفية والأدبيَة) التي لا خلاف يذكر على نسبة أغلبها إليه، وهي محققة ومشفوعة بالحواشي الضرورية.
