الدارس لتاريخ الفكر الفلسفي والعلمي عند أجدادنا من العرب، لا بد وأن يضع في اعتباره المكانة الكبيرة التي احتلها الحسن ابن الهيثم في تاريخنا الثقافي نحن العرب. انه يعد علامة بارزة ومضيئة في سماء حياتنا الفكرية والعلمية، وإذا كان الحسن بن الهيثم قد ترك عن العديد من الكتب والرسائل العلمية، فإنه قد ترك لنا كتباً ورسائل تعالج موضوعات فلسفية. إنه من العلماء الفلاسفة. وكان هذا الجمع بين الجانب الفلسفي والجانب العلمي شائعاً عند المفكرين القدامى. وما بين يدي القارئ رسالة جامعية موضوعها الاتجاه العلمي والفلسفي عند ابن الهيثم. قسمت الباحثة صاحبة الرسالة دراستها إلى مجموعة من الفصول. حللت في الفصل الأول الحياة الفكرية عند ابن الهيثم وموقفه من معاصريه، ودرست في الفصل الثاني، مؤلفات ابن الهيثم العلمية في مجال الطب والفلك والهندسة والرياضة وعلم الضوء (البصريات)، ومؤلفاته الفلسفية ودراستها لهذه المؤلفات تدل على دقة الباحثة العلمية وسعة اطلاعها. أما الفصل الثالث، فكان موضوعه تصنيف العلوم عند ابن الهيثم. وغير خاف أن ابن الهيثم كعالم من العلماء، كان مهتماً بتصنيف العلوم. وفي الفصل الرابع انتقلت الباحثة لدراسة المنهج النقدي عند ابن الهيثم. مخصصة الفصل الخامس من الكتاب لتحليل منهج البحث الرياضي وتطبيقاته عند ابن الهيثم، مشيرة فيه إلى طرق الاستدلال الرياضي من تحليل وتركيب، وأيضاً مبينة ابتكارات ابن الهيثم في مجال الرياضيات وعلاقة الرياضيات بالعلوم الطبيعية وبعلم الفلك.
