إن غرض المؤلف من هذا الكتاب تسليط الضوء على تجربة الحلاج وأفكاره مخصصاً للشعر والنثر الحصة الأكبر من هذا الجهد, بالإضافة إلى دراسة منابع الفكر الصوفي وأصوله، وتحليل مفرداته، وأمور أخرى تستحق الدراسة والبحث أكثر، وباستقلالية كل موضوع عن الآخر.
