تُوفِّيَ بالقاهرةِ عامَ ١٩٦٢م.

كان الحلَّاج، نبأً عظيمًا، في أفقِ التصوُّف الإسلامي، ولا يزال الناس يتساءلون عن النبأ العظيم، الذين هم فيه مختلفون. هبط به خصومه إلى هاوية السحر والشطح الآثم المتطلع إلى فناءٍ وخلود عن طريق الاتحاد والحلول !
وارتفع به محبُّوه، إلى أفق البهاء المقدَّس، وإلى معارج البطولة الخارقة للناموس!
لقد أسرف خصوم الحلَّاج في بغضه وتجريحه، وأسرفت الخلافة العباسية في اضطهاده وتعذيبه، وأسرفت إسرافًا جنونيًّا وحشيًّا فيما أعدَّت من عذاب غليظ عنيف ليوم مصرعه، وفيما أقامت من ستارٍ حديديٍّ لحجب سيرته عن الحياة، وفيما اصطنعت لتشويه تراثه في التاريخ. فأسرف أنصاره أيضًا في حبه وتقديسه، وفي الحديث عن أسراره ونفحاته وعلومه وعجائبه؟!
وبعد مرورِ أكثر من ألفِ عامٍ على المأساة الحلَّاجية، لا يزال النبأ العظيم يتساءل فيه الناس وهم مختلفون!
