مما لا شك فيه أن المتصوفة قدموا للفكر العربي الإسلامي وللإنسان في العالم, قيماً إنسانية كبيرة ومتعددة، تشكل في تطورها الزمني غاية قصوى يتمثلها الإنسان على الأرض وتسعى به إلى الأجمل والأشمل والأكثر معرفةً ووعياً. وقد اكتشف الصوفيون العشق الإلهي طريقاً إلى معرفة الأسرار. وتفرد الحسين بن منصور الحلاج في هذا العشق حتى الفناء لإثبات وحدة الوجود تحت فكرة ارتباط الأجزاء ببعضها, وقد جعلت أفكاره من العشق الإلهي منهجاً وفلسفة وأصولاً ما زالت تحتذى في الكثير من بقاع الأرض. إن غرض المؤلف من هذا الكتاب تسليط الضوء على تجربة الحلاج وأفكاره مخصصاً للشعر والنثر الحصة الأكبر من هذا الجهد, بالإضافة إلى دراسة منابع الفكر الصوفي وأصوله، وتحليل مفرداته، وأمور أخرى تستحق الدراسة والبحث أكثر، وباستقلالية كل موضوع عن الآخر.
