منذ قيامي بإعداد نصوص الطواسين التي نشرت عام 1994 وهي الأثر النثري الفريد المتبقي للحلاج لم يفارقني الشعور بأن هذه النصوص تتطلب المزيد من الإهتمام والدراسة ليس لقيمتها وحسب، بل لقيمة ما أثير حولها من جدل منذ القرن الرابع للهجرة، فكاتبها الحسين بن منصور الحلاج الشخصية من أشد الشخصيات إشكالية وإثارة في تراثنا العربي الإسلامي، وهو يمثل الجانب الغامض والمغيَّب أو المهمَّش في هذا التراث، وقد حظي حديثاً بإهتمام الدارسين من المستشرقين الغربيين - وعلى رأسهم ماسينيون - وقدموا في سيرته وفلسفته دراسات موضوعية وفق مناهج علمية حديثة، بينما نحن مقصرون حتى عن الوقوف موقف المتفرج، لأن معظم هذه الدراسات لم تكن موجهة للقارئ العربي.
ولا ننسى أن عدم تمكن ماسينيون من أسرار العربية - وهذا طبيعي بوصفه أجنبياً - قد ترك المجال لوقوع العديد من الأخطاء التي لم يتلاف الأب بولس نوياً اليسوعي إلا بعضها في تحقيقه الجديد للطواسين الموجّه لقرّا الفرنسية أيضاً.
وقد طبع كتاب الطواسين عدة طبعات إعتماداً على إحدى نسختي ماسينيون ونويّا، ولكن دون الإقتراب من دراساتهما حوله، أو تقديمهما له، ودون أية إضافات تستحق الذكر، وأحياناً دون الإشارة لسبق هذين العلاّمتين وفضلهما.
