يوضح هذا الكتاب مفهوم الجلد النفسي كخاصية في شخصية الفرد تساعده على تخطي الأزمات والصدمات والضغوط المختلفة وهو عنوان على الصحة النفسية لديه، كما يشمل متغير مرض الربو وأهم مسبباته وعوامله، وتم رصد واقع الراشدين المصابين بداء الربو، من خلال دراسة بعض الجوانب الشخصية لديهم، للكشف عن ما اذا كانت لديهم مؤشرات للجلد النفسي في ظل ما تعانيه هذه الفئة من ضغوط صحية وأخرى نفسية، فتلك القدرة التي تساعدهم على إدماج الصدمة المتعلقة بالمرض وما ينتج عنها من إعاقة نفسية تتحول لتصبح قدرة على المواجهة والصمود والمقاومة، وتم رصد هذه الخاصية في شخصية الراشد المصاب بمرض الربو من خلال الدارسة الاستطلاعية التي قامت بها الباحثة على عينة من مرضى الربو، استوقفتنا لنخصها بالتدقيق والتمحيص والغوص في العوامل المساعدة في نشوءها وتبلورها. وخلصت الدراسة إلى وجود مؤشرات مميزة للجلد عند الراشدين المصابين بداء الربو انطلاقا من كون الجلد عبارة عن قدرة الشخص على تجاوز ظروف خاصة صعبة بفضل مميزات عقلية و سلوكية و تكيفية، وعلى هذا الأساس ظهرت لدى الراشدين المصابين بداء الربو بعض المؤشرات تمثلت في: 1. ظهرت لدى الحالات مؤشرات دالة على تقدير للذات نابع من تقمصات أولية سليمة ونرجسية أولية انتهجت طريقها السليم نحو الموضوعات الخارجية ليرسم بذلك صورة لتقدير الذات الآمن والسليم. 2. كما ظهر مؤشر ثاني تمثل في وجود قدرة على بناء علاقات اجتماعية ناجحة وتخطي تلك العلاقات التي لا تؤمن لها الراحة والسند، كما أن أساس هذه العلاقات يعود إلى طبيعة العلاقات التعلقية الأولية أم-طفل. 3. أما الثالثة فتمثلت في وجود قاعدة من الأمن الداخلي أساسها وجود أوصياء للجلد من داخل الأسرة كالزوج والأم والأب، وخارج الأسرة كالأصدقاء والجيران، فطبيعة هذه العلاقات تشكل سندا قويا ساعد في هيكلة الجلد لدى الحالات، مما بعث فيهم أملا وتفاؤلا نحو المستقبل ، وكذا أمنا داخليا و روحيا في ظل المرض وإرهاصاته المرهقة للحالات.
