يضم هذا الكتاب اعمال "المؤتمر القومي الاسلامي الاول" الذي تبلورت فكرته في ندوة الحوار القومي الديني وكان قد نظمها مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية في القاهرة عام 1989. انعقد هذا المؤتمر بمشاركة مئة وثلاثة من اهل الفكر والعلم والسياسة والفعاليات الهنية والحركية، وضم قيادات من فصائل الفكر والمؤسسات والحركات الاكثر فعلاً في ساحة العمل القومي – الاسلامي. هدف المؤتمر الى تحقيق التعاون بين ابناء الامة والعمل معاً من اجل اقامة المشروع الحضاري العربي، في وقت تعاني فيه الاوضاع العربية والاسلامية ازمة مستحكمة تبلورت في ظل ازمة الخليج وفي اعقابها. تناول المؤتمرون مسائل مهمة مشتركة، تهم التيارين القومي والاسلامي، مثل حالة الامة في المرحلة الراهنة، ومسألة تحرير فلسطين، والتحرر السياسي العربي من الهيمنة الخارجية الاجنبية، ومسألة الوحدة، ومسألة التجدد الحضاري والتنمية المستقلة والكفاية والعدل، ومسألة الديمقراطية والشورى وحقوق الانسان ... الخ. تم ترتيب محتويات الكتاب بصورة تعطي فكرة واضحة على سير اعمال المؤتمر، أي وفقاً لبرنامج المؤتمر في ايامه الثلاثة، والجلسات في كل يوم، ولتسلسل الكلمات في كل جلسة.
