فرانتس كافكا (3 يوليو 18883 – 3 يونيع 1924) الكاتب التشيكي العظيم، أحد علامات الأدب الكبرى، ليس في الأدب الألماني فحسب، وإنما في الأدب العالمي. ولد في عاصمة التشيك براغ حين كانت ضمن الإمبراطورية النمساوية المجرية، وصف بأنه رائد الكتابة الفلسفية الكابوسية، وعرفت لغة كتابته الأدبية، الألمانية، بأنها بارعة وفائقة الدقة والجمال. قضى مرض سل الرئة على جسده، لكن أدبه ضمن له الخلود. في قصة التحول، وبقية قصص هذا الكتاب، يصبح القارئ أمام قصص تمثل أزمة وجود، وتشير إلى انقسام القارئ أمام قصص تمثل أزمة وجود، وتشير إلى انقسام يقع نتيجة لتراكمات عدة، فيفصل بين الوعي واللاوعي، ويصبح الاغتراب الإنساني أساسًا في قصص كافكا الشيقة الممتعة المدهشة بخيالها الجامح من ناحية، وبفلسفة وثقافة كافكا من ناحية أخرى. ثمة خاصية تتمثل في قصص لكافكا، اتخذ فيها السرد صيغة الجمع "نحن"، بدلًا من السرد من زاوية رؤية المفرد المتكلم "أنا".
