حقلُ الإبادةِ genocide بالعربية حقلٌ بالغُ الفقرِ. إننا نرتكبُ الإباداتِ ولا نكلّفُ أنفسَنا التفكيرَ فيها ودراستَها. وأعدادُ الكتبِ الصادرةِ بالعربيةِ تأليفاً وترجمةً في هذا الحقلِ لا تناسبُ مطلقاً أعدادَ الإباداتِ التي حدثتْ في تاريخِنا القديمِ والحديثِ والمعاصرِ. هذا الكتابُ المترجمُ لللأستاذ جون دوكر، "أصول العنف: الدين والتاريخ والإبادة" هو أولُ كتابٍ شاملٍ بالعربيةِ عن الإبادة؛ يغطّي تاريخَها في المجتمعِ الحيوانيّ والإنسانيّ. وهو يوظّفُ مفهومَ الإبادةِ عند رافائيل لَمْكِن وينحو به إلى أن يكون دراسةً ثقافيةً تتناولُ الإبادةَ في الكتابةِ التاريخيةِ (هيرودوت وثوسِّدِديس)، والأدبِ والأسطورةِ عند الإغريق والرومان (هوميروس، فرجيل، إسخيلوس وآخرين)، والفلسفة (أفلاطون، شيشرون)، والنصوص الدينية (التوراة)، والمسرح (العاصفة لشكسبير وموضوعة الاستعمار النبيل)، والفكر الاستعماري، وعصر التنوير، وينتهي بالفلسفة الحديثة والمعاصرة (سبينوزا، تولاند، هيوم، ليوتار، دولوز). وقد بذلَ المترجمُ علي مزهر جهداً كبيراً في ترجمةِ هذا الكتابِ المتنوّع المصادر، عسى أن يكونَ باعثاً على المزيد من الاهتمامِ بهذا الحقل.
