يتألف هذا الكتاب بالإضافة إلى المقدمة والخاتمة من خمسة أبواب، ترتبط جميعها بالجدل حول أزمة بناء الدولة في إفريقيا، وما يترتب عليها من إشكاليات التنمية المستعصية، يمثل الباب الأول مقدمة نظرية تاريخية حول سؤال ما الدولة؟ ومحاولة مقارنته في سياقه الأوروبي بواقعها الإفريقي، ولا سيما كما عكسته خبرة «بولا ما تاري» الكونغولية([1]). ويطرح مفهوم المركزية الإفريقية (Afrocentrity) إطارا معرفياً مهماً لفهم الواقع الإفريقي، والذي جسدته أعمال عدد من المفكرين الأفارقة أمثال شيخ أنتا ديوب، ومولفي كنتي أسانتي، وعلي مزروعي. وتُعزي أهمية هذا الإطار المعرفي إلى أن كثيراً من المفاهيم والافتراضات التي تم توظيفها لفهم الواقع الإفريقي والشتات، انطلقت من سياق معرفي مغاير، يركز على الخبرة الأوروبية بانحيازها الفكري والمنهجي غير الخافي، وعليه، فقد تم الاعتماد على هذا المدخل المعرفي الإفريقي من قبل المفكرين الأفارقة لمواجهة مقولات الفكر الغربي عبر تطوراته المختلفة، من أرسطو حتى هيجل ووصولاً إلى تحدي مفهوم «الآخر» في العصر الحديث، وتعد أعمال المفكر الكونغولي الأشهر فالنتين موديمبي مهمة في هذا السياق، من حيث إعادة اكتشاف إفريقيا، حيث رأى أن أفضل فترة لتقويم خبرة الاستعمار هي بعد رحيله.
