هل هي طفرة، أم هي فعلٌ إبداعي تلك الرواية السعودية التي تتمدَّد على المشهد الأدبي العربي، والتي وُلدت أوَّل ما وُدت على يد عبد القدوس الأنصاري - رواية "التوأمان" عام 1930، ثم لماذا اشتدَّت وقويت في فترة التسعينيات من القرن العشرين، وصارت تمارس فعلاً رياضياً وهي بكامل قواها الجسدية، ثمَّ الآن صارت تمشي ببطء، بل وتستعين بعصا وعكاكيز التقليد وليس الإبداع؟؟.
مع هذا فالرواية وإن كانت عملاً ذهنياً كمعظم الأعمال الإبداعية، إلا أنّها يفترض أن تحكمها قوانين فن الرواية، فلا تشتغل وفق منطق الفكر الديني الذي تشاكسه أو تتحرش به معظم الروايات السعودية، ولا وفق منطق الفكر العلي.
فالدارس لهذه الروايات يرى أنها كُتبت على عجل، ومعظمها ينطوي على تصوُّر أو رؤية أحادية للواقع، فنحن مع تسجيل شبه مثالي ينظر إلى الواقع على أنَّه مجرَّد علاقات بين الناس، وأنَّ كل هذه العلاقات تنشأ وتصدر عن الواقع وتعكسه في حين أنَّ المسألة هي غير ذلك.
"إلى أين تذهب الرواية السعودية؟!" هذا ما يحاول "د.محمد أحمد طيارة" إلى دراسته في صفحات هذا الكتاب وفق دراسة نقدية تقرئ واقع الرواية السعودية وتقارنها مع روايات "نجيب محفوظ" و"عبد الرحمن منيف" و"تولستوي" و"بلزاك" حيث أن الرواية عندهم تمثل، تكشف، تستبصر، تتحدّى الواقع، وأنّ الرواية أيضاً عندهم هي مشروع تاريخي ينافس التاريخ.
