إن للبطل في العمل الروائي أهميّة كبيرة، تتجلّى في كونه يمثّل الشخصية الرئيسة في الرواية، التي تتأثر بجميع عناصر البناء الروائي وتؤثر فيها، ولذا يولي الروائي شخصية البطل عناية فائقة مبرزاً جوانبها المختلفة.
ومن هنا، فإن البحث الذي بين أيدينا يختص بتقديم دراسة علمية مستقلة عن شخصية البطل في الرواية السعودية، وقد اشتملت خطة البحث على ما يأتي: تمهيد عن نشأة الرواية السعودية، وتطوّرها وأهمّ خصائصها، أمّا الفصل الأول فقد تحدث فيه المؤلف عن صورة البطل في الرواية السعودية في ضوء المذاهب الأدبية الحديثة.
وفي الفصل الثاني تناولت علاقة البطل بالشخصيات والأحداث في الرواية السعودية، اما الفصل الثالث فقد تحدث فيه عن علاقة البطل بالبيئة في الرواية السعودية، ويلي ذلك الفصل الرابع الذي تحدث فيه عن علاقة البطل باللغة في الرواية السعودية، وفي الفصل الخامس تناول أبعاد شخصية البطل الجسمية والنفسية والإجتماعية والثقافية.
أما الفصل السادس فقد خصّص لدراسة مشكلات البطل في الرواية السعودية، وفي الفصل السابع والأخير تحدث عن العلاقة بين الكاتب والبطل الروائي، ثم ختم البحث بعرض موجز لأهم موضوعات البحث والنتائج التي أسفر عنها البحث.
