هذا الكتاب في طبعته الثالثة عبارة عن مجموعة من المحاضرات التي ألقيت على طلبة كلية الحقوق بشأن شرح قانون العقوبات / القسم العام والذي يتعلق بالمساقين الأول والثاني والتي يطلق عليها عقوبات (1) وعقوبات (2) وقد تضمنت هذه المحاضرات تركيزاً على نصوص القانون الأردني وكذلك على أحكام القضاء الأردني.
وقد صدرت الطبعة الأولى من الكتاب عام (2000) والطبعة الثانية عام 2006 وهذه هي الطبعة الثالثة وتضمنت التعديلات التي أجريت على كثير من مواد القانون رقم 16 لسنة 1960 وآخرها التعديل الواسع الذي جرى بموجب القانون المعدل رقم 8 لسنة 2011.
كما تضمنت هذه الطبعة الجديدة الأحكام الحديثة التي صدرت عن محكمة التمييز وقد قمنا بالتعقيب على بعض هذه الأحكام بما يحقق الفائدة بعون الله كما تضمنت هذه الطبعة أيضاً شروحات لبعض مواد القسم العام التي لم نشرحها في الطبعتين الأولى والثانية.
