ما يزال النقد الأدبي يكشف لنا ما يتمتع به شعر شعراء ما قبل الإسلام من ضروب الفصاحة ووجوه البيان ورصانة اللغة، ما يتحتّم علينا العناية بذلك التراث التليد. وبعد التأمل في نتاج كثير من شعراء ذلك العصر رجحّ عندنا اختيار شاعر لم يحظ من الباحثين إلا بعناية يسيرة، فاخترنا (أعشى قيس) الذي يكنى أبا بصير، ميمون بن قيس، وهو شاعر جاهلي أدرك الاسلام، وتبارى النقاد في مدح شعره فوضعه ابن سلام في الطبقة الأولى من طبقاته، وعدّه عدد منهم أشعر الناس والعرب والقوم، وأسيرهم شعراً، وإستاذ الشعراء في الجاهلية، ولموسيقى شعره سمي بـ (صناجة العرب).
وكان أكثر الشعراء عروضاً، وأذهبهم في فنون الشعر، وأكثرهم طويلة جيدة، وأكثرهم مدحاً وهجاء وفخراً ووصفاً. وكان أوصف الشعراء للخمرة، فاقترن اسمه بها وبنواديها ومجالسها، وعرف بكثرة الرحلات والأسفار وأفاد من ذلك في شعره، إذ أتاحت له ثـقافة قلّ أن يجاريه فيها شاعر من عصره، فشاع في شعره وصف الأماكن وتصوير المشاهد والآثار والحوادث. وعكس شعره حياة عصره بما فيها من صراع وقيم وأعراف، وكان شاعر المرأة والحياة اللاهية، فبما عرف به شعره من خصائص دخل دائرة التميز وشقّ طريقه في زحام الشعراء ليأخذ مكانته.
وقد تضمن ديوانه اثنتين وثمانين قصيدة، فهذا النتاج الكبير يستحق الدراسة، إلا انه لم يأخذ نصيبه منها إلا في ثلاثة كتب: الأول: صناجة العرب الأعشى الكبير، للدكتور مصطفى الجوزو. الثاني: عناصر الابداع الفني في شعر الأعشى، للدكتور عباس بيومي عجلان. الثالث: الصورة الفنية معياراً نقدياً (منحى تطبيقي على شعر الأعشى الكبير)، للدكتور عبدالاله الصائغ.
وايماناً منّا بضرورة احياء ذلك التراث والنظر اليه بمنظور آخر عقدنا العزم على اختيار (الأسلوبية) منهجاً لدراستنا، والأسلوبية منهج يتعامل مع داخل النص، وليس مجرد دراسة لما يحيط به من مؤثرات خارجية، على غرار المناهج التاريخية والنفسية، فهي تنطلق من النص لتعود اليه مفيدة من السياقات أحياناً لاضاءة النص، فتعطي القارئ تصوراً مغايراً، يأتي من خلال قراءة شعر الأعشى بمنظور آخر، وتأخذ خطوطها أو مسلماتها من النتاجات النقدية الحديثة، معتمدين (الأسلوبية البنيوية) في قراءة النصوص، فيتم في ضوئها قراءة النص قراءة متأنية والغوص في أعماقه لاكتشاف دلالاته.
