الشعر في الجاهلية من الوفرة بمكان، والشعراء من الكثرة بحيث يصعب على الباحثين المنقّرين تتبع أسمائهم والإحاطة بأشعار النابهين منهم، ويأتي في طليعة تلك الأسماء المجلّية الأعشى، ميمون بن قيس، الشاعر الجاهلي الكبير الذي استطاع بشاعريته الفذّة أن يرتقي بالشعر الجاهلي ويسير في دروبه خطواتٍ فاتحة، يعينه على ذلك موهبة شعرية أدرك القدماء تأثيرها وسحرها، إضافة إلى ثقافة مميّزة وإطلاع واسع ومعرفة متنوعة لم تقتصر على الموروث، وهذا ما أغنى خياله الشعري، وأخصب تجاربه، وفتح المجال أمامه ليجدّد في لغته وموضوعاته، ويزوّد فكره ومشاعره بكلّ مستلزمات الأصالة والإغناء.
هذا البحث يدرس فيه الكاتب "الأعشى" دراسة جديدة مركزاً فيها على الموضوعات التي أولاها الشاعر عنايته وإهتمامه، فيفسر تأثيراتها ويلاحق دوافعها، ويتعمّق مساراتها ويسبر أغوارها وأبعادها بحثاً وتحليلاً ومناقشة؛ كما قام بتسليط الأضواء على تلك الإشارات واللمح لتبرز في دراسته شاعرية الرجل، وما تميز به شعره من خصائص فنية أصيلة وذوق شعريْ رفيع، هذا الذوق الذي حاول الشاعر أن يتفرّد به عن غيره حتى لا يكون صورة لها ما يماثلها، كما حاول بوساطته أن يحدّد خطواته وينهج طريقه الخاص، بعيداً من القيود والتقاليد، ليفسح لنفسه المجال الرحب للتعبير عن الرؤى الذاتية والمشاعر الخاصة والرغبات النفسية.
