وُلد عبد الله بن أحمد بن كاظم بن محمد بن يوسف اليوسف بتاريخ 20/8/1383 هـ الموافق 6/1/1964م في «حلة محيش» إحدى قرى منطقة القطيف في المنطقة الشرقية من المملكة العربية السعودية. نشأ الشيخ عبد الله اليوسف نشأة دينية عالية برعاية والديه، وقد عرف عنه منذ صغر سنه تحليه بالتقوى والأخلاق، وكذلك بالذكاء والفطنة، وكان مولعاً بالعلوم الدينية، مما جعله طموحاً للدخول في سلك علماء الدين، وهذا ماتحقق فعلاً في حياته المباركة.

ظاهرة الاختلاف في الآراء والأفكار والنظريات والمعتقدات والتصورات بين بني البشر ظاهرة أزلية غارقة في القدم، يعود تاريخها إلى ميلاد الكائن البشري على وجه الأرض، وهي كذلك ظاهرة طبيعية وواقعية وفطرية، وذلك نتيجة لاختلاف مراتب العقول، وتناقض المصالح وتقويم الأحداث وتفسير النصوص والتعاليم والأفكار بطريقة متغايرة.
وقد أكد القرآن الكريم بوضوح على حتمية وجود الاختلاف بين أبناء البشر حسبما شاءت إرادة الله تعالى وحكمته، يقول الله تعالى: "ولو شاء ربك لجعل الناس أمة واحدة ولا يزالون مختلفين إلا من رحم ربك ولذلك خلقهم"، ويقول تعالى "ولو شاء الله لجعلهم أمة واحدة ولكن يدخل من يشاء في رحمته والظالمون ما لهم من ولي ولا نصير".
وكما أن القرآن الكريم ينص على حتمية الاختلاف بين الناس، كذلك العقل والفطرة والواقع الملموس كلها تنص على حتمية وجود الاختلاف كظاهرة طبيعية في الحياة الإنسانية.
ومن هنا فليس غريباً اختلاف البشر في الأفكار والتصورات والمعتقدات والعادات والتقاليد، ولكن الغربية حقاً محاولة البعض جعل الناس كلهم يؤمنون بفكر واحد وثقافة واحدة ومعتقدات واحدة وقيادة واحدة ونية واحدة.
وهذا الكتاب الذي يرقد بين أناملك ما هو إلا محاولة متواضعة لإلقاء الأضواء على حق الإنسان في الاختلاف، وتأصيل الرأي الآخر، وتوضيح شرعيته، وأهميته، إذ بمقدار ما هو مشروع كذلك هو ضروري ومهم.
