في هذا الكتاب يقدم الدكتور حميد مجيد المولى رؤية في فلسفة الرياضيات التربوية لا يتناول فيها مجالاً واحداً من الأفكار بل ما تمثله الرياضيات التربوية من كونها مجموعة من الإستقصاءات في مجالات مختلفة ومنها: الأفكار الفلسفية للمعلم، الطرق الكفيلة بالتطبيق الكفء لأفكار المعلم الفلسفية في مجال التدريس، وكيف يفهم الطلاب ما يطرحه المعلم وما هي وجهة نظرهم في ذلك على وفق المستوى الثقافي الذي هو عليه، وهل هناك طريق واحد لجعل الغامض على الطلاب واضحاً لديهم ويكونون متمكنين منه ... وغيرها. إن الإجابة عن تلك الأسئلة تمثل لب فلسفة الرياضيات التربوية، والتي تتمحور في ثلاثة مواضيع هي: 1- مواضيع تتعلق بتعليم وتعلم الرياضيات، 2- دور كل من المعلم والمتعلّم والرياضيات في المجتمع، 3- القيم (الحق والجمال) التي يمكن أن يغرسها تعليم الرياضيات لدى المعلمين. هذه المفاهيم المتعددة للرياضيات التربوية هي ما يتم بحثه في هذا الكتاب.
