والشواهد من هذه المدينة لا تُعد ولا تُحصى، وإنما قصد الكاتب بهذه المجموعة "الدلالة على طرافتها وظرافتها، فهي بالوقت الذي تتصف بالطرف والظرف، تضم بين جوانحها الصبر والجلد، وفي قلبها الحنان والإحسان، وما بين عينيها الشجاعة والبسالة، وفي تلافيف دماغها: العلم والأدب، وفي لسانها: الوعظ والإرشاد، وفي نفسها الدنيا والآخرة ...".
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب إستناداً إلى تجارب الكاتب الشخصية، التي لمسها بنفسه، وعايشها بروحه، فأقام على أساسها عمله، مع الإستعانة ببعض من كتب في الطرائف النجفية.
