"يتصرّم المجد التليد ويهرم وتليد مجدك شامخ لا يلثم، شاخ الزمان ولم تشخ لك همة من دونها يعيا الزمان ويسأم، قدت الجحافل للفتوح، فما عصا ثغرٌ عليك وما تمنع مخرم، وبنيت للتاريخ صرح حضارة هيهات يعروه البلى أو يهدم، طالت ذراه وحلقت في شاهق وكأنها النجم الذي يتضرم، وسعت حضارته العصور ولم تزل تسع العصور بما تثيب وتنعم، عبر الحوادث في ثراك تضوعت دون الثرى وتبلجت تتبسم، نقش الحديد عن الفتوح ملاحماً في مثلها يحلو إذا انهمر الدم، درج الزمان على أديمك يافعاً متلفتاً يرنو وحيناً يحلم، وعليك من فتن الأصيل مطارفٌ لا تكتم الفتن التي هي تُكتم، ألوانها فوضى، يشوقك مشرق، منها ويشجي آخر متجهم، حلل كأنفاس العليل طلافة وأرقُّ من همس النسيم وأكرم، والماء ما بين الخمائل والربى شاد، لفطر هواجس يترنم...".
"نفحات شامية" ديوان يحتوي على جملة من القصائد التي تصف دمشق وطبيعتها وتاريخها وآثارها الموجود، فيها، والأنوار التي تميزها عن غيرها من البلدان، وبعض الدور الفنية منها، وقصائد أخرى تتحدث عن الشام ولياليها، ومنشآتها وشوارعها القديمة.
