هذا الكتاب صور حضارة مشرقة ومتجذّرة بالصور الكبرى للعراق العريق، من خلال العلاقات الأخوية بين سكان العراق العربي الأصيل ومسيحيين وسائر أبناء المذاهب والمجد الواحد.
هذه "اللمحات" التي استقيتها من بطون المصادر العربية الأصيلة، ما هي إلا تأكيد بأن الإسلام بكتابه الكريم خصّ بأهل الكتاب مكانة مرموقة على عهد خلفاء الدولة العربية الإسلامية عبر العصور، بالمواثيق والعهود التي أبرموها مع رؤساتهم الروحانيين، الذين كانوا يتمتعون بصداقات عميقة معهم حيث كان تجمعهم المجالس والمناسبات العامة والخاصة؛ كثيرة هي الإتهامات الملفّقة التي توجّه إلى المسلمين وخلفائهم من قبل مؤرخي الغرب وأتباعهم من أنهم كانوا يظلمون أهل الذمّة من المسيحيين واليهود وغيرهم، وأغلبها إتهامات مزورة.
لهذا أتيت بكتابي هذا شارحاً ومدققاً، داحضاً ومحققاً، لإثبات العكس، وتوضيح تلك العلاقات الأخوية بين المسلمين والمسيحيين، بحسب الإسلام وكتابه الكريم، وما منحه لهم من التسامح والترابط بينهم على صعيد الأخوة والإيثار، والعمل الواحد في الوطن الواحد.
إن بعض الظلم، ونقض البراءات التي أنزلها بعض الخفاء والولاة بأهل الذمة في فترات مزاجية وعصبية ليس معناه أن الإسلام يدعو إلى الظلم، إنما إلى التصرف الفردي للخليفة، ولا يدلّ مباشرة على أن السلطة بكاملها وعلى مر التاريخ قد نهجت هذا النهج الخاطئ.
من هنا، وعليه، بدا عملنا الدؤوب لنظهر العلاقة الطيبة والمتينة بين شرائح مجتمع الدولة العربية الإسلامية بالمستوى المعيشي والإجتماعي والثقافي الذي بلغته أهل الديانات الأخرى مع رجال الدولة المسلمين، فلقد تبوأ بناء هذه الديانات مكانات سامية في المناصب العليّة، أطباء ومهندسين، كتّاب ومترجمين، أرباب أعمال وحرفيين، كما توضحه هذه "اللمحات" التاريخية الزاهية بأحداثها المتباهية، التي نضعها بين يديك أيها القارئ الكريم.
