بعد إنتهاء الحرب العالمية الأولى (1914- 1918) سقطت الموصل تحت الإحتلال الإنكليزي 1918، وبعد إستتباب الأمن بفترة قصيرة أرسل الجنرال ليجمان الحاكم السياسي للموصل طلباً للبطريرك ماريوسف عمانوئيل توما للكلدان وفاتحه بأمر تشكيل دولة للمسيحيين في شمال العراق، فرفض البطريرك قائلاً له: "نحن المسيحيين لا نريد دولة بل نريد الأمن والسلام، وأخوتنا هم المسلمون، لأنهم معنا ويشاركوننا الأرض والخيرات، نحن نرفض ذلك".
هذا الكلام حمل الحاكم السياسي على نفي البطريرك إلى البادية، هذه هي الخطوة الأولى التي رفضها المسيحيون لأنهم علموا بأنها بدايات مؤامرة كبيرة على الكنيسة العراقية.
ومن ثم أثير من جديد موضوع إقامة كيان خاص بالمسيحيين العراقيين في سهل نينوى، أخرها في العام 2014 بعد سيطرة داعش، فما هو سهل نينوى؟...
