تعد المزامير أكثر الأسفار قراءة من قبل اليهود والمسيحيين، أما المسلمين فمع إيمانهم بأنبياء بني إسرائيل وكتبهم إلا أنهم ابتعدوا عن تراثهم الديني بدعوى تَحريفه.
وكما أن للمزامير تفاسيرها اليهودية التي لا تعترف بالمسيح، فلها أيضاً تفاسيرها المسيحية التي تؤولها للتبشير بقدوم المسيح، ومع أن المزامير تبدو كلام إنسان هو داود أو غيره من أنبياء بني إسرائيل، لكن الشروحات الكنسية تقول بأن الله هو الذي كان يوحي لهم ما يتكلمون به.
والزبور هو المرادف الإسلامي للمزامير، وقد ذكره القرآن كتاباً مُنزلاً على داود الذي حظي بدور بارز في القرآن كما في المزامير، وكلا الكتابين يذكران مشاركة الجبال والطيور الترتيل مع داود.
ومع أن المزامير كانت نتاج مجتمع محارب، له رب خاص به، لكنها تبقى نصاً أدبياً وإبداع إنساني بكل ما في الإنسانية من خير أو شر، وتأتي هذه الدراسة غير التقليدية دعوة للإطلاع على سفر خالد شغل ولا يزال يشغل أعداد كبيرة من القراء والدارسين المؤمنين به وغير المؤمنين.
