أفرد هذا الكتاب لرواية الشَّاميين للمغازي والسِّير في القَرْنَينِ الأوَّل والثاني الهجْريَّين، لما لها من قيمةٍ كبيرةٍ، فهي فَرْعٌ شامخٌ من فُروعِ المَعْرِفَةِ التَّاريخيَّةِ، وهي أصْلٌ راسخٌ من أُصُولِ الثَقَافةِ الإسْلاميَّةِ، ولأنَّها لم تُدْرَسْ دَرْساً وافياً من قَبْلُ، ولم يُخَصَّصْ لها كتْابٌ مُسْتَقِلٌ.
والكتاب مُوَزَّعٌ بينَ خَمْسةِ فُصُولٍ، جَعَلْتُ أوَّلَها لأسْبابِ مُنَاهَضَةِ الأمَويِّين المُتَقدِّمين لِلْمَغَازي والسِّير، وثانيها لروايات الصَّحابة الشَّامِيِّين للمَغَازي والسِّير، وثالِثَها لتابعين شامِّيين عُلماء بالمَغَازي والسِّير، ورابعَها لمحمدِ بنِ مُسْلمٍ الزُّهْريِّ، وخامِسَها لتلاميذ الزُّهْريِّ من أهلِ الشَّامِ، وأبَنْتُ عن مَصَادِرَ آثارهم في المغَازي والسِّيَر، وأشَرْتُ إلى ما بقي من رواياتهم لها، وكَشفتُ عن قيمتها ومِقدارِ الثِّقة بها.
