يحتاج الإسلام في بعده السياسي إلى قراءة جديدة تنطلق من نصوصه التأسيسية هذه المرة لتتجاوز المدونة التراثية التي سقطت، في أكثر الأحيان، في عمليات تبريرية لواقع تاريخي ازدحمت فيه ممارسات الإستبداد والقهر والظلم بعيداً عن الخط التحرري الذي رسمه القرآن وطبقه الرسول (ص).
وهذا الكتاب ليس إلا محاولة في هذا الإتجاه من أجل اكتشاف موقف الإسلام الرافض، منذ البداية، لكل تلك الرؤى التسلطية التي تريد فرض وصايتها على الناس من أجل قهرهم واستعبادهم رغم أن الوحي لم يقبل حتى للأنبياء أن يكونوا وكلاء عن الناس. وكان يؤكد دائماً أن قرار الإيمان يبقى مهمة هؤلاء الناس وحدهم.
إن رفض الكثيرين للإسلام في بعده السياسي، رغم وضوحه، يتأسس في أغلب الحالات على هواجس ومخاوف حقيقية تحملها تيارات معينة تدعي الإنتماء للإسلام من أجل محاولة فرض تصورات تتلبس بمبادىء هذا الدين، في الوقت الذي تريد فيه فرض طريقة معينة في الحياة، لم يدعُ إليها القرآن ولم يقرها النبي؛ طريقة تصادر في الناس قناعاتهم وحرياتهم. إن هذا هو ما يجعل الحاجة ملحة لإبراز الجانب التحرري في العقل السياسي الإسلامي الذي أراد منذ البداية خلق إنسانية حرة وعادلة وكريمة.
