بُعث النبي محمد(ص) في مرحلة تاريخية مزدحمة بالحضارة والتنوع الثقافي رغم أن المنطقة العربية كانت تفتقد إلى الدولة الجامعة. وليس غريبا، بسبب ذلك، أن يكون الخطاب القرآني محمّلا بأبعاد عقلانية وإنسانية عميقة تناسب تطور مستويات الوعي، فعرب الجزيرة كانوا بعيدين عن سذاجة الأجيال السابقة التي كانت تؤثر فيها المعجزة الحسية أكثر من الحجة المنطقية.
وكان تركيز القرآن كبيراً على تقديم رؤية وجودية عقلانية متماسكة، وكان تأكيده لافتاً على سنن التاريخ والقوانين التي تحكم حركته ودور الإنسان في تطويع هذه السنن من أجل تحقيق غاياته، وعلى حقيقة أن التغيير الاجتماعي والسياسي يحتاجان إلى الوعي بمعطيات الواقع والمعرفة بقوانين التغيير وإرادة الانجاز. ولم يهمل القرآن الكريم تقديم منظومة تشريعية عادلة ونظرية أخلاقية متوازنة يمكن أن تحقق للإنسان حرية حقيقية.
غير أن أسئلة طرحت دائماً حول سلامة النص القرآني من التلاعب بسبب وجود كم كبير من الروايات التاريخية المنسوبة إلى بعض الصحابة وأهل البيت تشير إلى ذلك، وهو ما يحتاج إلى قراءة علمية تحاول مقاربة هذه الأسئلة؛ وهذا ما يسعى إليه هذا الكتاب.
