كان هدف هؤلاء الاستيلاء على السلطة بعدما نجحوا في طرد القوات السوفياتية من البلاد، وهذا ما لم يكن الأميركيون يريدونه، فعمدوا إلى قطع المساعدات العسكرية عنهم ما أجبر هؤلاء المجاهدين على التوجه نحو زراعة الخشخاش ليشتروا من ريعه السلاح.
في هذه الأجواء التقت موفدة الهيئة العليا للمهجرين في أفغانستان التي تسعى جاهدة لإقامة مخيم للاجئين الأفغان في بيشاور ـ باكستان، مندوب المكتب الأميركي لمكافحة المخدرات المقيم بدوره في باكستان؛ وكلاهما يشهدان كيف أن المخابرات الأميركية بالتعاون مع المخابرات السعودية والباكستانية قد عملت على صعود بن لادن ومن بعده (الملّة عمر) والطالبان.
لأول مرة نتعرّف إلى كيفية نشوء الإسلام الراديكالي “الوهابية” في رواية مشوّقة لمتابعة سير هذه العملية.
