الخطاب ممارسة فكرية لغوية ثقافية، وسيلة أساس في تعلم اللغة وتعليمها، إلا أنّ الخطابات / أو النصوص تتفاوت في النمط (إخبار - وصف - حوار - تحاجج... إلخ)، وفي القيمة، وفي التأثير، وفي التصنيفات، ولا يتم تحليل أي خطاب إلا في ضوء نظرية متكاملة بآلياتها ومفاهيمها ومبادئها، لتساعد المحلل على خلق تحليل منسجم، وتصور واضح.
ذلك أن السيمياء هي دراسة للسلوك الإنساني بإعتباره حالة ثقافية منتجة للمعاني، ففي غياب قصدية - صريحة أو ضمنية - لا يمكن لهذا السلوك أن يكون دالاً، أي مدركاً بإعتباره يحيل على معنى، والسيمياء في تعاملها مع الخطاب بوصفه عملية دلالية معقدة، انفتحت على المستحدثات المنهجية والمعرفية، فاستطاعت التحرر من القيود البنيوية وأيديولوجياتها الصارمة، ليتموضع الفضاء الوسطي في هذه العملية التحليلية بين البنيتين: البنية السطحية (المكون الإبستمولوجي) والبنية العميقة (المكون الخطابي)، والمهم أساساً هو النمذجة الخطابية وتنظيمها العاملي أي ما يميز العامل بفعله وحده (وليس برواسبه النفسية)، وهذا الشرط الأساس لتطوير سيميائية العمل، في سبيل الوقوف على بعض "التمفصلات الممكنة بين عالم الشعور وعالم الإدراك الحسي، غير المعروفة بعد في السيمياء معرفة جيدة".
ذلك أن الخطاب عبارة عن نسيج لغوي، لعبة منفتحة ومغلقة في الوقت ذاته، ولهذا فمن المحال أن تكتشف النسب الوحيد والأول له، فليس له أب واحد، أو أصل واحد، بل مجموعة من الأصول والأنساب تتشكل على هيئة طبقات جيولوجية، يصطف بعضها فوق بعض، نصوص سابقة استحضرها الناس، والتي كانت لها الفاعلية في بلورة المنتوج الإبداعي حتى وصلنا تحفة فنية، تربط الماضي بالحاضر لتسلط الأضواء الكاشفة على خبايا الأمور.
من هذا المنطلق، ستكون هذه الدراسة التي يريد بها الكاتب الوصول إلى الإستنطاق السيميائي الممكن لبعض الخطابات اللغوية منها والبصرية.
