يضم هذا الكتاب قصيدتين من القصائد الميتولوجية التي عثر عليها في موقع رأس شمرا, أوغاريت على الساحل السوري. الأولى قصيدة (البعل وعنات), والثانية قصيدة (قصر البعل), وهي تتمة الأولى. وقد اعتمد في تعريب القصيدتين على الترجمة الفرنسية شبه الحرفية والمزودة بشروح كما هي في كتاب: نصوص أوغاريتية, أساطير وحكايات, المجلد الأول, منشورات (دي سيرف. باريس). بالإضافة الى النص الأصلي للقصيدتين باللغة الأوغاريتية منسوخاً بالحرف اللاتيني. وهذه الترجمة العربية هي أول ترجمة كاملة وشبه حرفية للنصين. ولقد أخذت بعين الاعتبار الاحتمالات المتعددة, وفي بعض الأحيان المتقاربة, في ترجمة بعض التعابير والمفردات والأفعال الأوغاريتية الواردة على متن النصين والتي لا يزال معناها الأكيد غير واضح الى اليوم لعدم وجود معادل لها في اللغات السامية الأخرى أو لصعوبة استنباط مدلولها من خلال النص.
