(بعل): المثل والحياة, الإنسانية, والخصب, إنه لهذا العالم الأعلى, وهو (موت) هو العالم السفلي. والحياة آخر الأمر هي في ذلك الصراع الأبدي الدائم. عبر الميثولوجيا السورية تعود جدلية هيغل الى البعيد, ففي أوغاريت ربما نجد البدايات الأولى لبروز قوانين الحياة, للتطور, للصيرورة, وآخر الأمر للصراع الحتمي بين حالات تتناقض في ماهيتها, وربما تعود أيضاً جدلية ماركس حين نقصر التناقض على الأقل بين الخصب والجفاف, وفي أحيان كثيرة يعود الاثنان مندمجين في الحالة الواحدة. على كل فإن المسألة في الأسطورة السورية هي المادية الروحية التي ألمحت إليها بوصفها أساس الإرتقاء الإنساني, أساس النشوء والتطور.
