منذ أن اكتشفت أوغاريت في العام 1929 وحتى يومنا هذا لا تزال موضوعاً لأبحاث أرخيولوجية مكثفة، قادها على مدى سنوات طويلة العالم الفرنسي ك.ف، أ. شيفي. وقام ش. فيرولو، ي. دورم، وهـ. باور، كل على حدة بفك رموز النصوص المكتوبة بلغة أوغاريت. وكان فيرولو قد اهتم، حتى وقت قريب جداً، بنشر نصوص الشعر ووثائق الحياة العملية المكتوبة باللغة الأوغاريتية كافة، أما النصوص المكتوبة باللغة الأكادية فقد نشرها نوغيرول. كما وساهم كل من س.خ. جوردون، ج. درايفر، ست. سيغيرت، إ. ايستليتنير، إ.ن فينيكوف، أ. كاكو، م. شنيتسر، أ. أردنيه، د. غاستر، أ. ابيركو، م. ديتريش، وأو. لوريتس، ساهموا مساهمة كبيرة في دراسة الوثائق الأوغاريتية دراسة لغوية. ونتيجة لذلك، جاءت الدراسة في هذا الكتاب حول ثقافة أوغاريت في القرنين الرابع عشر والثالث عشر قبل الميلاد.
والكتاب هو الثاني في دراسة حول مجتمع أوغاريت تناول هذا الكتاب الذي نقلب صفحاته العلاقات الخارجية للثقافة الأوغاريتية مبيناً تأثير بلاد الرافدين والتأثير المصري، متحدثاً عن الثقافة الحورية في أوغاريت وعن تقديم الثقافة الحية في أوغاريت وعن تأثير منطقة بحر إيجه، وعن تأثير الثقافة الأوغاريتية على العالم المحيط بها وعن الثقافة الأوغاريتية في الجامعة الكنعانية الآمورية مختتماً الدراسة بجولات دارت حول التصورات عن الكون ونشأة العالم في ميثولوجيا آسيا الأمامية المطلة على المتوسط وحول ميثولوجيا آسيا الأمامية المطلة على البحر المتوسط (الاتجاهات والنزعات الأساسية).
