يبحث مسألة الروح في مختلف الأديان التوحيدية والنظريات الوضعية ابتداءً من ديانات الأمم القديمة بدءاً من المصريين القدماء مروراً بموضوع التقمص والحساب و العذاب والثورة الدينية عند المصرين, ثم ينتقل الى ديانات الهنود ولا سيما الهندوسية والبرهمية وابتداعهم عبادة التثليث ونظام الكارما ثم بالنيرفانا البوذية, وأيضاً بالديانات الفارسية القديمة من الزرادشتية والمانوية والمزدكية والمجوسية. ويعرج على مذهب الصابئه مروراً بالديانة اليزيدية التي يعبد مريدوها الشيطان. ويبحث بشكل موسع في فلسفة العقائد اليونانية المقدسة. والمحطة الكبرى للكتاب كانت عند الديانات السماوية اليهودية والمسيحية والإسلام ونشر عبادة التوحيد بين الناس. وعند الإسلام كانت استراحة طويلة فقد تكلم عن مدارسه ومذاهبه الأربعة ومدارس الاعتزال والباطنية, التي برز فيها الكثير من العلماء, مثل البخاري ومسلم والغزالي والأشعري والجيلاني وابن حزم وغيرهم. والوقفة النقدية اللاذعة للباحث كانت عند الحركات الصوفية الإسلامية كإخوان الصفا والحاكمية والدرزية. وكان نصيب النقد الأوفر موجهاً للحلاج صاحب نظرية الحلول وابن عربي صاحب وحدة الوجود ووحدة الأديان والإنسان الكامل, هذا النقد الذي يترك للقارئ الحكم عليه وحرية المظر فيه. وأخيراً زار المؤلف في بحثه آخر بدع الحركات الدينية الجديدة -البابية والبهائية والشيخية وصولاً الى القاديانية.
