يحقّق علاء حليحل، في روايته هذه، عدّة معادلات تضاف إلى رصيده الإبداعيّ الثرّ، مهما تكن هذه المعادلات، أرى وجوب الإشارة إلى اثنتين منها تؤثّثان المفاصل الرئيسة للرواية:
-أوّلاً: معادلة البحث عن الحقيقة البسيطة المخبوءة وراء الأحداث التاريخيّة الجلل، بمنأى مسبق الرغبة عن أيّ تغريض أو توّهم أو تبسيط.
-ثانياً: معادلة التحرّر من الخجل في الكتابة الّتي أفضت إلى التخلّي عن قيود التقليد، وأفسحت الحيّز أمام إمكان التجريب والتخيّل والفانتازيا وتنويع التناصّ وأسلوب الحوار، فضلاً عن عدم الإرتطام بسقف الأسطرة.
ولئن جاءت الرواية متّكئةً على وقائع تاريخيّة لمكان محدّد - مدينة عكّا - قلكي يشيّد الكاتب ظروف الحياة الخاصّة بشخوص معيّنة، بعواطفها وردّات فعلها المخصوصة، مبيّناً كيف أنّ البيئة في مفترقاتٍ ما تضع تحدّيات أمام كائنات حيّة فتستجيب لها عبر تغيير أنماط علاقتها بعضها ببعض وبالعالمين الداخليّ والخارجيّ، وكلّ ذلك من خلال مقاربة نشوء الوعي وتشكّل الضمير، سواء في الماضي، أو هنا والآن.
بذا، يضعنا الكاتب قبالة الحقيقة القائلة، إنّ الأدب لا يُفهَم من المجتمع فحسب، بل إنّ فهم المجتمع ينطلق أيضاً من الأدب وخيال الكاتب.
